Complete Review of Episode 3

Episode 3 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 3 (Swordsmith Village Arc) titled 'A Sword from Over 300 Years Ago' starts with Kotetsu and Tanjiro being surprised by the discovery of a hidden sword within Yoriichi Type Zero. Kotetsu is excited about Tanjiro using the sword, but Tanjiro is hesitant and unsure. They engage in a conversation, trying to convince each other of their ideas. Eventually, they decide to unsheathe the sword, only to find it covered in rust, which leaves them disappointed.

Just then, a newly buffed-up Hotaru Haganezuka appears and attempts to take the sword. Tanjiro and Kotetsu try to stop him, wondering about his intentions. In the midst of the chaos, Kanamori arrives and tickles Haganezuka until he loses consciousness. Kanamori explains that Haganezuka was actually training to create a stronger sword specifically for Tanjiro, which touches him deeply.

Suddenly, Haganezuka wakes up and declares his determination to fix the sword for Tanjiro. Kotetsu scolds him for being so vague earlier, causing Haganezuka to become annoyed and attempt to retaliate. However, Tanjiro and Kanamori intervene by tickling Haganezuka, preventing any further conflict. Finally, Haganezuka provides Tanjiro with a temporary sword and promises to return in three days with the newly polished 300-year-old sword, much to Tanjiro's relief and anticipation.

During dinner time, Tanjiro expresses his concerns about Haganezuka to Genya. However, Genya, who had his arm broken by Haganezuka during their final selection, is not interested in befriending him. Tanjiro suddenly notices that Genya had broken his tooth at the hot spring and that he still holds onto it, intending to return it. This strange gesture weirds out Genya, and he kicks Tanjiro out of the area.

Undeterred, Tanjiro continues his duties and starts braiding Nezuko's hair. As he does so, he comes up with a plan to befriend Genya by sharing a meal with him the following morning.

Meanwhile, a swordsmith who had been at the hot springs is on his way back when he comes across a vase. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he investigates, only to discover it belongs to Gyokko, the potted demon. Gyokko devours the swordsmith but ends up regurgitating him due to the unpleasant taste. Despite his distaste, Gyokko expresses a willingness to destroy the village to weaken the demon slayers. Meanwhile, Hantengu, another demon, lurks on the rooftop, contemplating his plan to swiftly eliminate everyone who opposes Muzan.

Genya visits a swordsmith's hut and finds it empty, reminiscing about his brother Sanemi. Muichiro Tokito wakes Tanjiro and asks about Kanamori, his new swordsmith. Tanjiro offers to help search for Kanamori, and despite finding Tanjiro nosy, Tokito is taken aback by his kindness. Their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Hantengu, who cries and approaches them. Tokito attacks, but Hantengu splits into two demons, Sekido and Karaku.

Genya appears and shoots the demons with nichirin bullets, but when he severs a demon's head, it multiplies. Tanjiro realizes that each beheading creates a new clone with different abilities. As they battle, a winged clone captures Tanjiro and stabs Genya, leading Tanjiro to instruct Nezuko to help Genya while he faces the flying demon. The clone taunts Tanjiro, who severs the leg holding him, but the clone counters with soundwaves, causing Tanjiro to fall into the forest.
