Genya, having a demon for a mother, raises the possibility that he could be part demon himself. It is intriguing to consider whether he possesses any unique abilities as a result. The fact that none of his siblings or his older brother display similar qualities adds to the mystery surrounding Genya. Fans of the show are hoping for more screen time dedicated to exploring Genya's backstory, as it holds great fascination.
By delving deeper into Genya's character and revealing his origins, the series could add a fresh and captivating element to the storyline. This would provide a welcome break from the repetitive nature of the clones' plotline and offer viewers a chance to delve into the depths of Genya's unique abilities and personal history
The Demonic Slayer
Episode 6 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 3, titled 'Aren't You Going to be a Hashira?', begins with Tanjiro being taken aback by Genya's unusual appearance. He notices that even though he decapitates the four clones, they continue to regenerate. In the midst of rescuing Nezuko from the wreckage, Tanjiro realizes that there is a fifth clone present.
Suddenly, Genya grabs Tanjiro by the throat and declares that he will be the one to defeat the Upper Rank Demon and become a Hashira. Surprisingly, Tanjiro genuinely expresses his support for Genya, which confuses him. As the confrontation unfolds, the clones fully heal and launch an attack. Tanjiro instructs Genya to hold them off with Nezuko's help while he searches for the fifth demon.
With Karaku accidentally dispersing the sulfuric smell, Tanjiro uses his heightened sense of smell to locate the original Hantengu, who is hiding underground. He sends Genya after Hantengu and covers for him. However, Tanjiro and Nezuko struggle to fend off the clones. Meanwhile, Tokito finds himself trapped in a water prison that he cannot slash through. He realizes that he is running out of air while Gyokko taunts him.
Returning to the clones, Aizetsu stabs Nezuko, but Tanjiro reacts swiftly and Sekido notices his ability to adapt quickly. Nezuko also employs her blood demon art, causing Sekido to grow concerned. On the other hand, Genya is unable to locate Hantengu. Tanjiro guides him, and Genya discovers that Hantengu has transformed into the size of a mouse and is fleeing. Genya becomes frustrated that such a small demon possesses significant power.
He finally manages to slice and shoot at Hantengu, but the demon proves to be too formidable, causing Genya's sword to break. At that moment, Sekido aims for Genya's neck from behind, and Genya resigns himself to his fate, knowing that he cannot regenerate if stabbed in the neck. He begins to recall his regrets, such as his desire to be acknowledged by his brother, Sanemi Shinazugawa, by becoming a Hashira and apologizing for a past incident.
In a flashback, it is revealed that Genya felt sorrow for his mother, who was of small stature, worked tirelessly, and rarely slept. Their father abused them all, but Genya's mother would protect him from the attacks. One night, when she fails to return home, Genya and Sanemi grow concerned. Genya wants to search for her with Sanemi, but his brother makes him promise to stay home.
As their other siblings awaken, they wait anxiously throughout the night. Genya assumes the role of the older brother and assures them that Sanemi will bring their mother back. Just as the sun begins to rise, they hear a noise, and as they open the door, someone enters and fatally wounds them all. As the assailant approaches Genya, Sanemi intervenes and drags the demon away. Genya rushes to find a doctor for his siblings but discovers they have all perished. While seeking help, he stumbles upon a shocked Sanemi standing over their mother's lifeless body, having unknowingly killed her. Genya is horrified and rushes to his mother, cursing Sanemi.
Now on the brink of death, Genya laments that he never apologized to his mother, realizing that she was a demon and Sanemi killed her, mistaking her for a stranger. He feels guilty for not trying to understand the pain his brother must have experienced upon realizing he killed their mother.
