House of Dragon story according to Fire and Blood explained
The Targaryen family's history is chronicled in the book, beginning with Aegon the Conqueror. But the chapters beginning with "Heirs of the Dragon," which concentrate on what occurs after King Jaehaeyrs I Targaryen's rule when King Viserys I ascends to the throne, are the most pertinent for House of the Dragon viewers. Who will succeed Viserys becomes the major concern. Will Prince Daemon, his brother, be there? Princess Rhaenyra, who is his daughter? Viserys designates Rhaenyra as his successor after the passing of his first wife, Aemma. But soon after, he is remarried to Alicent Hightower, and she has boys, including Aegon, who is the oldest.
The court then splits between those that back Alicent and her boys' claim and those who back Rhaenyra's claim. According to Martin, "On the fifth anniversary of the king's marriage to Queen Alicent in 111 AC, a large tournament was organized at King's Landing. The princess dressed boldly in Targaryen red and black while the queen donned a green gown for the inaugural feast. It was noted, and from that point on, referring to the princess' party and the queen's party, respectively, as the "greens" and "blacks" became customary."
Martin claims that there was never any question that King Viserys still intended for his daughter to succeed him on the Iron Throne and her sons to do the same for her about 120 AC (or "after conquest" in Martin's dating method). However, as Martin points out, "the murderous seeds of the Dance of the Dragons had been sowed" in the rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent's respective sons as well as between Rhaenyra and Alicent themselves.
When Viserys passes away in 129, Aegon is crowned Aegon II, and Rhaenyra is not informed of her father's passing. As a result, there is an all-out civil war between the Targaryen families, which results in numerous deaths. Aegon III, the son of Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon, weds Jaehaera, the granddaughter of Alicent, bringing an end to the conflict between the two lines of the Targaryen family

Having ruled Westeros for 26 years, King Viserys passes away at the age of 52.
For around six months, Princess Rhaenyra sits on the Iron Throne as Queen Rhaenyra. She leaves King's Landing during the Storming of the Dragonpit riot, in which many of her children are slaughtered, but is finally apprehended. Aegon II, the son of Alicent, who is also her half-brother, feeds her to his dragon Sunfyre.
Queen Alicent, sometimes known as Alicent Hightower, survives the Dance of the Dragons. She was, however, confined to her apartments for the last year of her life, and in the books, she passes away in 133 AC from a case of winter fever after going mad.
Following the passing of his second wife, Laena Velaryon, Prince Daemon marries Rhaenyra, and the couple has three kids. He kills Aemond, one of Alicent and Viserys' sons, by leaping off his dragon when it is being ridden during the Battle Above Gods Eye. Daemon's corpse is never discovered.
After a sequence of events, Corlys Velaryon—who had backed Rhaenyra in her throne bid—is accused of betrayal and taken into custody. Rhaenyra is released from the prisons after fleeing Dragon's Landing as word of his capture spreads among his troops, who start to turn on him. In gratitude for his support of King Aegon II, Alicent grants him a pardon, and Corlys arranges for the marriage of Aegon III and Jaehaera. He passes away from old age.
Rhaenys Targaryen, the wife of Corlys, is Rhaenyra's ally and a member of her black council. She battles Aegon II and Aemond at the battle of Rook's Rest while flying in Meleys during the Dance of the Dragons (who are also on dragons). Rhaenys's dragon Meleys passes away, and it's thought that she passed away with her, though her body was never found.
Three years after the birth of Joffery, Laenor Velaryon, who wed his cousin Rhaenyra, is assassinated by his companion Ser Qarl Correy. In the novels, there are several explanations presented for why Qarl killed Laenor, including either jealousy that Laenor was in love with someone else or that Daemon ordered Laenor's death. Laenor poses as dead in the television series, leaving Westeros with Qarl—a rare happy ending.
The three sons of Rhaenyra and Laenor—who appear to actually be Ser Harwin Strong's sons—Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon—are all slain at the Dance of the Dragons.
Aegon II, sometimes known as the Aegon the Elder, is the eldest son of Alicent and Viserys and serves (temporarily) as king. He suffers severe burns during the Dance of the Dragon, paralyzing his legs. At age 24, he gets poisoned to death.
The sole daughter of Viserys and Alicent, Helaena Targaryen, gets wed to her elder brother Aegon II. Jaehaerys and Jaehaera are twins, and Maelor is the third kid they had. After King's Landing is conquered by Rhaneyra, Jaehaerys is slain and Helaena is kidnapped at the Dance of the Dragons. She commits suicide, Helaena.
The second son of Viserys and Alicent, Aemond Targaryen, takes part in the Dance of the Dragon to support his older brother, Aegon II. Aemond is slain by Daemon during the Battle Above the Gods Eye.
House of The Dragon plot and cast
One of Game of Thrones' most well-known characters, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), is born 174 years before the events of the House of the Dragon plotline. The Targaryens, also known as the fabled dragonriders of all of Westeros, and their dominance over the Seven Kingdoms are at the center of the series' events, as the title indicates.
The narrative opens with a lengthy history lesson on the Targaryen family's great ancestor Aegon the Conqueror, who established their rule over the Seven Kingdoms. Jaeherys I, the future king and grandson of Aegon, struggled with the problem of not being able to have children. I ultimately had to choose between Jaeherys' granddaughter Rhaenys and his grandson Viserys (Paddy Considine). Jaeherys I made Viserys his choice after consulting a patriarchal council.
When Viserys becomes king, he encounters the same challenge. Only his daughter Rhaenyra survived his wife Queen Aemma's (Sian Brooke) death in delivery, along with their infant son (Milly Alcock). There is disagreement about whether Rhaenyra or Viserys' brother Daemon (Matt Smith) should be appointed successor when a new council is formed to debate the matter of Viserys' succession.
The main character of this series, Rhaenyra, resembles Daenerys (at least before GoT butchered her character). The princess is a fantastic dragonrider in addition to being ambitious, sassy, and intelligent. In the existing system, she is aware of her limitations as a woman, and if given the chance, she would like to "establish a new global order."
Daemon is the city's City Watch Commander in the meanwhile. Despite this, he has been observed on several occasions relaxing in the brothels, skipping council sessions, and expressing his desire to occupy the Iron Throne while King Viserys is gone. On one occasion, Daemon and his guards went to the street to viciously harass and murder bystanders in order to "have their fun." Viserys was enraged by this behavior, as was Otto Hightower, the King's Hand (Rhys Ifans).
After careful consideration, Viserys concluded that Rhaenyra is the most qualified candidate for the crown given the current situation. He designates her as his heir while revealing the royal succession secret: a Targaryen is obligated by prophecy to hold the Iron Throne forever. Things come full circle when the pilot episode of HotD ends because Daenerys also had faith in this prophesy during her whole quest in Game of Thrones.
