In Episode 5 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 3, Kotetsu and Tokito Muichiro, the Mist Hashira, race to save Kanamori, with Kanamori revealing that Tanjiro instructed him to create a sword for the Mist Hashira. This surprises Tokito, leaving Kotetsu bewildered by their priorities. They set out to find Haganezuka, a swordsmith. Along the way, they encounter Gyokko, a potted demon, who obstructs their path.

Meanwhile, in the village, fish minions cause chaos. Just when all hope seems lost, Mitsuri, the Love Hashira, arrives and swiftly defeats the fish minions. She then rushes to rescue the chief, who is being held captive by a fish minion. Despite initially losing hope, Mitsuri's arrival brings a glimmer of hope. She utilizes her unique sword, which doubles as a whip, to eliminate the fish minion and secure the chief's safety.

Elsewhere, Nezuko and Tanjiro face attacks from clone demons as they try to escape. Sekido, one of the clones, strikes them with lightning, causing Nezuko to lose consciousness. Tanjiro regains consciousness first and carries Nezuko while being pursued by Karaku. As they are thrown out of a house, Nezuko awakens and tightly grips Tanjiro's blade.

The house is destroyed, and the clones begin searching for the siblings amidst the wreckage. Nezuko becomes trapped under debris but refuses to let go of the blade, even as her hands bleed, confusing Tanjiro.

Back to the misfit trio, Gyokko creates a minion using the five swordsmiths it consumed. Although the swordsmiths are still alive and capable of feeling pain, Tokito becomes annoyed and attacks. Despite Gyokko's attempts to escape, it becomes enraged when Tokito damages its vases, expressing disdain for the destruction of art. Tokito realizes that decapitation alone is enough to defeat Gyokko, but the potted demon counters by attacking Kotetsu and Kanamori with fish needles.

Tokito rushes to their aid and ends up getting pierced by the poisoned needles. He instructs the two swordsmiths to flee and hide, while he confronts the potted demon. Gyokko taunts Tokito, claiming that he will lose his life while attempting to save worthless lives. This triggers a memory in Tokito, as he recalls someone telling him that his life is worthless.

At that critical moment, Gyokko traps Tokito in a water prison and boasts about his plan to destroy the village, weakening the demon slayers and making it easier for the demons to kill Ubuyashiki.

Meanwhile, Nezuko uses her blood demon art to transfer her power to Tanjiro's black sword, causing it to ignite with flaming red. As Tanjiro prepares to attack, he suddenly experiences an inherited memory from a 300-year-old slayer. In the memory, a woman admired his sword, which had transformed from black to red during battle. Tanjiro, though confused, declares that his sword turned red because of Nezuko's assistance.

Inspired by all the people who have helped him along the way, Tanjiro strengthens his resolve to repay their kindness by defeating the demons. He confronts the clones, with Urogi and Karaku mocking him. However, Sekido, who has a memory of Muzan, realizes the similarity between Tanjiro's sword and the one used by the 300-year-old slayer who nearly beheaded Muzan.

Sekido notices that Tanjiro's scar has transformed into the same scar the slayer possessed. As he strikes, Sekido sees a vision of the slayer behind him. Tanjiro effortlessly beheads all three clones simultaneously using a particular technique he had used to defeat Gyutaro, feeling a fiery sensation throughout his body. He realizes that all the clones' heads must be severed simultaneously.

While searching for the fourth clone, Aizetsu, Tanjiro discovers that Genya has already beheaded him. Tanjiro is relieved as this prevents all four clones from regenerating. However, upon reaching Genya, he finds his eyes blackened, and he foams at the mouth.

In the epilogue, Tanjiro and Nezuko ask Mitsuri how she sheathes her whip-like sword. Mitsuri effortlessly demonstrates the technique, and the siblings cheer for her. They express admiration for her abilities, leading her to show off repeatedly, with Tanjiro and Nezuko cheering her on.
