Hayao Miyazaki's Final Film To Release In the US

Gkids has acquired the North American distribution rights for Hayao Miyazaki's final film, titled "Kimitachi wa Do Ikiruka" in Japan, but informally known internationally as "How Do You Live." The film will be released in North America under the title "The Boy and the Heron." According to Variety, the release is scheduled for sometime this year, although specific details about the film have not been revealed by the US distributor, apart from its title. It has been confirmed that "The Boy and the Heron" is not based on Genzaburo Yoshino's 1937 book "Kimitachi wa Do Ikiruka," but instead, it is an original story written and directed by Miyazaki.

Hayao Miyazaki himself will write and direct the film, while Studio Ghibli co-founder Suzuki Toshio will serve as the producer, and Joe Hisaishi will compose the score. Miyazaki is widely regarded as a legendary filmmaker, having won an Academy Award for "Spirited Away" and receiving two Oscar nominations for "Howl's Moving Castle" and "The Wind Rises." The anticipation for his latest masterpiece is high, as it has been ten years since his last film.
